These are three original brushes (silver plate with wooden core) that were made in England. Usually these products are provided with 4 different marks.
Two of the brushes with the letters J.G, Maker’s Mark (manufacturer’s mark) point to Joseph Gloster. The town mark, point of location, shows the anchor of Birmingham. The Essay Mark / Standard Mark, the lion that looks over its left shoulder, is the guarantee for the Sterling Standard. The date letter "H" stands for the year of manufacture. With the appropriate specialist literature, you can easily assign the date of manufacture. Dimensions : approx.12.50 x 4.50 x 4.00cm.
With the third brush, the maker's mark is difficult to read. The town mark, point of location, shows the anchor of Birmingham. The Essay Mark / Standard Mark, the lion that looks over its left shoulder, is the guarantee for the Sterling Standard. The date letter "G" stands for the year of manufacture. With the appropriate specialist literature, you can easily assign the date of manufacture. Dimensions : approx.13.50 x 7.50 x 4.50cm.
The brushes are used, but in good condition. They are unrestored and would need to be cleaned and refreshed. The smaller one is not free of defects (some minor dents) and can only be used to a limited extent, because the brush holder is loose in the silver part.
There is a monogram on all three, twice “BL” and once “MDH” (?). On the whole, they are beautiful antique specimens from the time. Weight : 447 g.
